When you think of the world’s fastest and most powerful cars, do you think of Honda? Well, now you should.

This year, the 2017 Honda Civic Type R set a new record on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, one of the most demanding racetracks in the world. (It earned the nickname “Green Hell” from Formula 1 driver Sir John Young “Jackie” Stewart.) As Nordschleife explains on their website, “tricky corners, treacherous crests, steep inclines and gradients and constantly changing road surfaces demand great skill from the driver and put vehicles to a hard test.”

That’s 33 left turns, 40 right turns, gradients of up to 17%, and slopes of up to 11%, meaning the 2017 Civic Type R isn’t just fast; it’s powerful and handles incredibly well, too.

The Drive reports that the Civic Type R broke the previous front-wheel-drive record by three seconds, setting the new top mark at seven minutes and 43.8 seconds. That’s also seven seconds better than Honda’s last effort with the previous Type R.

That article quotes engineer Ryuichi Kijima, who says the car corners better than the older model due to “‘a wider track and tires, a longer wheelbase, a new multi-link suspension in the rear and optimized aerodynamics that improves stability.'” You can hear more from Ryuichi Kijima and see the 2017 Type R’s stellar performance on the track in the video below.

The New Civic Type R is Available for Sale & Lease

That’s all exciting news if you love record-setting performances, fast cars, or Hondas in general, but it’s about to get even better. Honda’s previous CTR was rarely available for sale in the United States. And when we talk about the world’s fastest, most powerful, and best-handling automobiles, they’re often out of reach for the average driver; those are the cars that someone else is lucky enough to drive—the cars you see cruising on racetracks and sitting in the driveways of the world’s ultra-rich.

This Civic Type R is a different beast. This time around, Honda’s innovation, speed, power, precision, and handling can be enjoyed by drivers in the United States—drivers like you! And it starts with a visit to one of our Jacksonville Honda dealerships, where residents of Jacksonville, Waycross, Lake City, Brunswick, St. Augustine, or any of the surrounding areas can easily find themselves behind the wheel this record-breaking monster. You might not want to try to set any records with your new CTR, but you’ll love the responsiveness of this car whether you’re driving to work or going out on the town.

Sounds great, but what about the details, right? Here’s all that the 2017 Civic Type R offers:

And this nugget of critical acclaim:

“The CTR will arrive on a single platform — the hatchback. It’s a mean one, with exaggerated air vents in the front, fender flares on the side and a big ol’ wing out back. A hood scoop up front delivers air to the engine, and out back, there are not two, but three tailpipes. Red accents line the lower portion of the body and the wheels, because red is the sportiest color.”
