Last year’s fireworks were pandemic-y duds. This year’s fireworks are bound to be studs because we Americans are an outsparken lot who refuse to stop the shellebration for a second straight Fourth of July.
(I’ll see myself out.)
Whether you’re hoping to watch a darn good fireworks show or need some activities to keep the kiddos occupied for a weekend, Jacksonville’s got you covered. Here are some local Independence Day events around Duval County that are officially open for business.
Jacksonville’s 4th of July Fireworks Celebration
When Jacksonville does July 4th, they do it big. Want proof? This year’s 4th of July fireworks in Jacksonville will be so huge, they’ll be visible from miles away. But where you watch the Jacksonville fireworks matters. To get the best seat, we recommend one of these sanctioned fireworks-viewing locations:
- Downtown Jacksonville
- St. Johns Town Center (4663 River City Dr)
- FSCJ North Campus (4501 Capper Rd)
- Trinity Baptist Church (800 Hammond Blvd)
- The Avenues Mall (10300 Southside Blvd)
- Ed Austin Regional Park (11751 McCormick Rd)
Of course, there’s a lot more Independence Day fun to be had in Jacksonville. In addition to the fireworks on July 4, 2021, Jacksonville is hosting special events at the Riverfront Plaza (2 Independent Dr). This includes a family fun zone, bars, a live concert, and just about every food truck in the city.
The action begins around 5:00 PM, with the Jacksonville fireworks planned for 9:45 PM. For updates and more info, head to visitjacksonville.com.
Independence Day Festival & Fireworks in Lake City
Looking for a good July 4th fireworks show in Lake City? Head to the Florida Gateway Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 3, 2021, and you’ll be treated to what locals refer to as “the best fireworks finale in North Florida.”
In addition to Fourth of July fireworks, the Lake City holiday event will also feature a tribute to the U.S. Military, food, vendors, games, entertainment, and a Kids Zone.
Activities start at 5 PM, and the Lake City fireworks display will begin around 9:15 PM. Register for and follow this Independence Day event at lakecitychamber.com.
Just like in years past, be sure to pack your cooler, camping chairs, and celebratory spirit for this Lake City July 4th party. It’s the perfect opportunity to test out your Honda Ridgeline’s capabilities. You can fill the in-bed cooler with ice and a few non-alcoholic drinks (gotta keep it kid-friendly) and snacks. Pop those camping chairs down in the truck bed, let the built-in sound system pump the Independence Day jams, and relax. There’s a reason the Ridgeline is voted one of the most versatile trucks you can buy.
July 4th Golf Cart Parade in Ponte Vedra
On Sunday, July 4, the neighborhoods near Del Webb Parkway will be hosting a special Independence Day parade — of golf carts. How Floridian of them! The unique holiday parade will begin at 10:15 AM on Del Webb Parkway and end at the entrance to the clubhouse.
Registration is required if you plan to enter your cart. Otherwise, it’s free for onlookers. Check out www.delwebbpv.com for additional information.
Fourth of July Fireworks 2021 in St. Augustine
Where can you find fantastic live music, fantastic food, fantastic views and a fantastic fireworks show in St. Augustine? The Castillo de San Marcos monument, that’s where.
At 6 PM on July 4, 2021, the Independence Day festivities begin at the Plaza de la Constitucion, with a free 2-hour show from local swing band The All-Star Orchestra, followed by an intermission to grab a bite to eat.
Around 9:30 PM, you can tilt your head back and watch the fireworks over Matanzas Bay. This 20-minute fireworks show features over 5,000 individual shells that go pop as high as 2,000 feet in the sky. For over 2 decades, it’s been known as one of the biggest and best Independence Day fireworks displays on the East Coast!
Afterward, make your way to the historic downtown area and conclude your evening with a nightcap. Just make sure you have a D.D., as there is no shuttle service planned for the event.

St. Simons Island 4th of July Celebration
If you’d rather chillax like this dog on July 4th, there’s no better place to be than St. Simon Island, located on the Golden Isles in Georgia.
The annual Sunshine Festival at Pier Village in St. Simon Island has been going on for more than 6 decades. It’s an ideal place for families to relax and celebrate with swimming, boating, games and more. For 2021, the July Fourth holiday is an entire weekend affair, too!
On Friday and Saturday (July 2 and 3), Pier Village is hosting an Arts and Crafts Show, with vendors and activities also scheduled.
On Sunday, July 4, the morning begins with a 5K run (and shorter 1-mile “fun run”) that’ll get your blood pumping. The Arts and Crafts Show continues throughout the day, with a little break in the action: a Golf Cart Parade at 2:30 PM. The finishing touch of the night is a 9 PM fireworks display over St. Simon Island Pier. Breath. Taking.
Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration in Brunswick, GA
For more excitement on the Golden Isles, head to Brunswick, Georgia.
Starting Saturday, July 3, 2021, Brunswick becomes a July Fourth village.
At 10 AM, Newcastle Street welcomes a festive parade.
Scoot over to Mary Ross Waterfront Park at 11 AM for a must-see Puppy Parade. Seriously, mark your calendars, set several alarms, do whatever you need to do to get there on time.
At 11:30 AM, local band Beau and the Burners takes the stage, and Brunswick’s annual Axe Throwing Tournament begins. (Not in the same place–that would be too dangerous, even by July 4th standards.)
Come Sunday, July 4, you can burn the rest of your Independence Day fuse with a Cornhole Tournament (9 AM), Watermelon Giveaway (6 PM), kid’s games, live music by Michaele (7 PM), and other activities throughout the afternoon and evening.
Oh, and there’s also a Brunswick fireworks show at 9 PM. But you probably don’t want any of that sweet, sweet July 4th action.
Jekyll Island Independence Day Celebration
Spend the Fourth at the beach, the pool, the Summer Waves Water Park, or just hanging out around downtown Jekyll Island. Then, at around 9 PM, you can watch the July 4th fireworks at the Great Dunes or Ocean View Beach Park.
